The Pod (a Coventry City Council resource for people that are striving to improve their mental health) is proud to announce the emergence of two exciting new projects. Firstly, ‘Time Union’, which aims to give people the opportunity to strengthen their social networks, individual skills, and community through sharing; and, secondly, ‘Food Union’, a project which hopes to generate discussion and action aimed at tackling the socially and environmentally unsustainable aspects of our food system.
The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the projects themselves and what they will mean for our community, but also for you to have a role in how they are shaped. The event will comprise short talks (including our coopers:) aimed at exploring some of the possibilities presented by these two projects, as well as break-away discussions, and a chance for all attendees to vote on a range of potential project logos.
In an attempt to involve as much of the Coventry community as possible, the event will be split into two repeating sessions; one in the late afternoon (3-5pm), the other in the early evening (6-8pm).Between these two sessions we will break for food and more discussion, a moment we hope will allow a cross-pollination of ideas and energy between the two groups.
Given the focus on food signalled by the Food Union (but also via Time Union’s emphasis on skill-sharing) the food we are providing will consist largely of ingredients from producers and distributors who would otherwise have wasted it. Both Food Union and Time Union wish to make it a core part of their function not only to draw attention to the things that are wrong with our society (like food waste) but also to highlight positive alternatives which can help to make our community more healthy, equitable and environmentally sound.
And if you are free earlier, you can come and help out with peeling, dicing, cooking, mixing… and potentially bring some spare veg from your allotment.
